COVID-19 Response

“At Hill Country Montessori School, we value the child as an individual and strive to create an environment that is both nurturing and stimulating. Children should be excited to go to school and feel completely comfortable once they arrive. In the current situation, this commitment to our students will continue, but we are also taking the necessary precautions as recommended by the government and health officials and applying them to everyday life at HCMS.

Putting safety first is the number one priority because we hope that this will bring about a sense of ease and peace to both the families and the staff. Our plan is to continue to implement the Montessori philosophy and not lose touch with the core spirit of Montessori learning while implementing all of the necessary changes to promote well-being and health.”

Policies & Procedures

HCMS decisions regarding COVID-19 are guided by the four principles below:

  • Protect the health, safety, and wellbeing of every member of our community, and contribute to the local Boerne, TX efforts to reduce the spread of this virus.
  • Base our decisions on health guidance from federal, state, and local government and health agencies.
  • Continue carrying out our Montessori School mission. Take actions that are consistent with our HCMS values.

To help protect the health and safety of our staff, families, and visitors, we have implemented the following protocols for campus visits:

  • Campus tours will be scheduled outside of our normal business hours.
  • All visitors will be screened for signs or symptoms related to COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and temperatures will be taken before entry using a non-contact thermometer.
  • All visitors over the age of 10 years will be required to wear face coverings.

Hill Country Montessori School has implemented several strategies and policies to encourage behaviors that reduce the spread of COVID-19.

  • Educate our staff and families about when their child(ren) should stay home and when they can return to school.
  • Staff and students who are sick or who have recently had close contact with a person with COVID-19 are required to stay at home.
  • All staff and students who have tested positive for or are showing COVID-19 systems are required to stay at home.
  • Teaching and reinforcing handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Teaching and reinforcing the use of cloth face coverings. Face coverings are worn by staff and students throughout the day, especially during a time when physical distancing can be difficult.
  • We are providing adequate hygiene supplies, including soap, hand sanitizer, paper towels, tissues, disinfectant wipes, cloth face coverings, and no-touch trash cans.
  • Our staff cleans and disinfects frequently touched surfaces within the HCMS school daily and between use.
  • We have modified our classroom layouts to implement at least 6 feet apart when feasible.
  • Children are required to bring their own meals.
